Sandy Socked our Shore!

Hey guys! My blog is about all things food and nutrition but this time I want to share my experience down here at the Jersey Shore and what Sandy has been throwing at us! We were warned of Sandy’s wrath early on but by the time we got to the store there were no C or D batteries, flashlights, water, candles or ice.  We made due with what we had and hoped that she took it easy on us.  I stopped by the local convenience store to grab a cup of coffee and had to do a double take of these shelves…what does this picture say to you?

ALL THE JUNK FOOD IS CLEANED OUT & LOOK WHAT’S LEFT UNTOUCHED :(

We hunkered down, played board games, listened to music, read, ate, drank and rode out the wild and frightening storm. The morning light brought no power, a downed tree, busted fence but a safe family – AMEN!

I live on the Jersey Shore in Ocean, New Jersey – Monmouth County.  Our town shares the same zip code as Asbury Park which I associate very closely with. In the 80’s I was a bartender at the infamous rock club The Stone Pony where Bruce Springsteen would unexpectedly pop in, jump on stage and jam with the band.  This would happen regularly, we never knew exactly when but it was usually on Sunday nights when John Bon Jovi and other rockers would join The Boss on stage. The “Pony” is located on Ocean Avenue directly across from the beach so fingers were crossed and miraculously this iconic establishment remains intact!

Our beach club took a hit, lost the restaurant and few cabanas but looks better than expected!

Lots of trees and power lines are down in the streets…

These homes are on Deal Lake and the street is completely covered with water…these people step out their front door and into the lake! Crazy!

The ticket shack for the Loch Arbour beach that is supposed to be right on the beach by the shoreline but is now inland 2 blocks!!

The boys have not been in school since last Friday and we just got word that they are off until next Monday! Power just came back on and we will start the clean up process inside and outside of the house.  Thoughts and prayers are with those who suffered loss and are still without power!!
