Swedish Turkey Meatballs



  • 2lb ground turkey
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 quart beef broth


  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons water
  • 1/4 cup sherry
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3/4 cups low-fat sour cream


Step 1. Combine turkey, bread crumbs, egg whites, nutmeg, allspice and salt in a large bowl. Mix with your hands.
Step 2. With wet hands, form turkey mixture into 1-inch balls.
Step 3. In medium pot bring 1 quart of beef broth to a boil.
Step 4. Reduce heat to low boil and gently drop meatballs in one at a time.
Step 5. Cook 5-10 minutes until thoroughly cooked.
Step 6. Remove with slotted spoon, place on serving platter and cover with foil to keep warm.
Step 7. In a small bowl combine cornstarch and water, whisking until smooth. Set aside.
Step 8. Combine sherry, Worcestershire and beef broth in a large saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
Step 9. Whisk in the cornstarch mixture, reduce heat to simmer and continue whisking until the mixture begins to thicken. Turn off the heat.
Step 10. Temper the sour cream: Place 1/2 cup of sour cream in a small bowl. Slowly add 1/4 cup of hot broth to sour cream whisking continuously.
Step 11. Add to broth mixture in pot whisking continuously. Whisk in remaining sour cream.
Step 12. Pour sauce over the meatballs and gently stir to combine. Serve warm.
Step 13. Enjoy!
