Diane’s Simple Crock Pot Tomato Ketchup & BBQ Sauce

Ingredients

  • For Ketchup
  • celery ribs (coarsley chopped)
  • 2lb very ripe tomatoes (or 1 28-ounce can tomato puree)
  • 1 Large sweet onion (coarsley chopped)
  • 1 red bell pepper (coarsely chopped)
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 clove garlic (crushed)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/8 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Sea salt
  • Additional Ingredients for BBQ Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Chili Powder
  • 2 tablespoons Blackstrap Molasses

Directions

Step 1. Combine all ingredients for ketchup in high powered blender or food processor and process until smooth.
Step 2. Pour into crock pot, cover and cook on low for 4 hours stirring occasionally.
Step 3. Reduce heat to ow and cook for another 1 1/2 hours stirring occasionally. Taste and adjust to your liking by adding more vinegar, sugar, spices, etc.
Step 4. Remove lid and cook another hour or until mixture thickens to desired consistency.
Step 5. Remove 2 cups of ketchup, let cool and store covered in fridge.
Step 6. To make BBQ sauce add remaining ingredients, cover and cook on low for an additional hour stirring occasionally.
Step 7. Remove lid, taste, adjust to your liking by adding more vinegar, sugar, spices, etc. and cook 20 minutes uncovered.
Step 8. Turn off, let cool and store covered in fridge.
Step 9. Enjoy!
